What Does a Doctor of Chiropractic Do?

Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to diagnose and treat disorders of the body, most specifically of the neuromusculoskeletal system - simply defined as (nerves, muscles, skeleton - bones and joints.)  A joint dysfunction (called a subluxation or misalignment) is primarly treated by a procedure known as a chiropractic adjustment.  The chiropractor applies a quick and specific pressure to the mis-aligned segment of the spine or other joint that is not functioning properly to correct its alignment and cause a neurological response.  The procedure is usually applied manually (tools can be used), and results in a reduction of pain, inflammation, and restoration of function and mobility in the injured area.

In addition to chiropractic adjustment, our clinics treatment plans may include therapeutic exercise, disc-decompression traction, acupuncture, ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, nutritional counseling, and other professional advice that may improve overall health.  We regularly integrate treatments with the knowledge of our other health professionals including a Physical Therapist, Massage Therapist, Medical Doctor and Acupuncturist.
